The first volume of The Music of Cambodia series is the first recording to be made in Angkor Wat. Like Angkor Wat, Cambodian music has managed to survive the turmoil of centuries. Now, we are finally able to hear the rare Taam Ming ensemble in all its dignity.
Also featured in The Music of Cambodia, Vol. 1 is the pinpeat orchestra, a local vesion of the great Khmer Empire's royal court music of the 9th through the 15th centuries. The interlocking sounds of wood and metal percussion instruments, oboe, and fiddle will enthrall listeners, and allow them to revel in the glory and beauty of Cambodia.
