Pros and Cons

Pros: - It is VERY well made. Solid, heavy. The drum sits firmly and things stay in place. - Even at the lowest setting, it raises an 18" BD drum enough to get the beater to strike the head dead center. - The drum sounds WAY better. (Beater hitting the center, and with the drum off the floor - more resonance). - Raising the BD allows a rack tom holder to be lowered, increasing tom stability. (Thin, 6 ply BD shell). Cons: - The Allen screws can make NASTY marks on the BD hoop. Use layers of cardboard to prevent this. - The riser moves the pedal back away from the drum head about 1". This increases the angle of attack reducing pedal efficiency. - The pedal doesn't seem to fit very flat onto the riser. But tightens down fine. - More things to keep track of and to set up, another tool to bring. All in all, the increase in BD tone quality is worth it.

Well made product...

Very easy adjustment. Very sturdy construction. Locks in securely. Using on an 18" bass drum. Make sure your spurs extend far enough to lift the front of the bass drum equally to the height of the lift at it's lowest setting. Getting more resonance from the drum now and the beater is centered to the batter head. As always, Steve Weiss' quality control and shipping expedition is second to none...

After researching the web, I decided to buy this Gibraltar Bass Drum Platform for my new 20" kick drum. Steve Weiss Music had it in stock and shipped it right out. It attached to my pedal and drum ring as described. The allen head screws mean extra tools to carry, but it should be ok. It lifts the drum off the floor enough that I didn't need to adjust my beater head from my 22" kick placement.

This is a great addition for any small bass drum. Installing the lift was easy. There are rubber pieces that protect your hoop and were pretty easy to use. The pieces are held down by another metal piece that is secured by HUGE allen screws. No allen wrench is included, but because the outside surface of the allen screws are textured, it is very easy to tighten down the allen screws to the proper tension. (Using a wrench is probably overkill anyway.) The lift is adjustable for height. I have been using a pearl p900 pedal and the beater location has been high on the batter side. I had to add a falam slam pad to the center of the drum. This is an 18" bass drum I am using. I must tell ya, having the beater hit the center of the drum really livens up the sound and the lift itself helps get the entire drum off the floor, contributing resonance and more low end. (Ya baby!!) Overall, this bass drum lift was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for carrying this part!
