El-Dabh-Sailing Wind-V - Product Information

The title Sailing Wind is inspired by the desire to ride the wind (the vibrations of the vibraphone) and to sail with it to visit the twenty-three percussionists from across North America who commissioned the work. It is written in 3 movements - From the East (meditative), From the West (soulful, jazz and blues influence), and From North and South (joyful).

Halim El-Dabh's compositions form a bridge between the East and the West.Drawing inspiration from his work as an ethnomusicologist in Africa as well as from the compositional traditions of Europe and the Americas, he writes with a unique voice that is simultaneously ancient and modern. He has written symphonies, operas, ballets, choral works, electronic works and a wide variety of chamber music.
