Description
Practus Interruptus by David J. Long is a unique theatrical showpiece for alto saxophone and one percussionist. The scenario is a run-through rehearsal in which the saxophonist keeps messing up. When the percussionist finally gets fed up, he starts playing a swing pattern on hand drums and chords in the vibraphone. The saxophone joins in with a bluesy solo over top. The middle section features improvisation in a 12-bar blues. After they finish "playing around," the two players finish the composition they started rehearsing in the first place. A lot of fun to play and watch!
