Etude No. 5 is an exercise that develops independence between the hands. It centers around rolling in one hand while playing rubato in the other. The etude also works much like a multiple percussion piece in that the performer is required to make mallet changes in one hand while rolling in the other. Dedicated to Leigh Howard Stevens

Michael Burritt is currently Professor and Director of Percussion Studies in the School of Music at Northwestern University. He has developed a program of international distinction. Mr. Burritt received his Bachelor and Master of Music Degrees, as well as the prestigious Performers Certificate from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. His teachers have included John Beck, Gordon Stout, Paul Yancich and Herbert Flower.
