Etude No. 6 develops both rhythmic and dynamic independence between hands as well as one-handed rolls, double lateral and double vertical strokes. This is also a good exercise for developing consistency in octave passage work. A good sense of pulse is important in order to bring off the metric modulations in the etude. Michael Burritt is currently Professor and Director of Percussion Studies in the School of Music at Northwestern University. He has developed a program of international distinction. Mr. Burritt received his Bachelor and Master of Music Degrees, as well as the prestigious Performers Certificate from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. His teachers have included John Beck, Gordon Stout, Paul Yancich and Herbert Flower.
