Description

Gary Burton's performance of "Chega De Saudade" from the Grammy award winning recording "Alone at last" is quite possibly the most famous solo vibraphone performance to date. The transcription of this historical recording, exposes Gary Burton's technique of interpretation, comping, improvising, pedaling and dampening. Transcription by Errol Rackipov.

The notation is arranged on two staffs, accentuating the contrast between melody and accompaniment. The original chord changes are included for quick reference. The work can be performed solo or with an ensemble.

Hello Lydia, I'd like to respond to your comment: "The only problem I have is that it is not fully accurate to the way Gary Burton played it in his 1960's recording." The transcription is 100% note-for-note accurate as far as notes are concern. The only liberty I allow myself to add was the dampening and pedaling in order to add clarity (melodically and harmonically) to the transcription. The transcriptions is from Gary Burton's "Alone at Last" studio version and NOT from the video performance circulation around the internet. Thank you for your comments. Errol Rackipov

An incredibly piece of music. Truly, Errol Rackipov has done an excellent job as a transcriber and I love Burton's improvisation. It is very difficult, (Grade 6+) but I highly recommend it to any vibe soloist.

This is a wonderful piece of improvisation and just as well a wonderful transcription. This piece of music may be VERY challenging and, although it mentions no rating, I believe it to be a 6+. However, though it may be difficult, it is still totally worth it to learn this solo in my opinion. The only problem I have is that it is not fully accurate to the way Gary Burton played it in his 1960's recording. But none the less, great solo, great music. Highly recommended to skilled and experienced vibe soloists.
