Four Stories manipulates that jazz ride feel through the course of the piece. It starts in a straight ahead jazz feel that transition in to a ¾ treatment of the swing rhythm. This is followed by a section for open solos featuring all of the players. The ending is one large open roll that builds in intensity to a large closed roll that decrescendos to the end of the composition.
