Scored for ten performers, Gatzara ("loud party" in Catalonia) is a challenging etude in poly-rhythms and explores new sonorities for chimes, tam-tam and bass drum.
"The exploitation of peaks in the dynamic range, the active fabric, rhythmic dissonances, 'swirling' chromatic runs and accented fortissimo outbursts result in a visceral listening experience. The piece concludes with a cacophonous effect similar to that of myriad church bells pealing at the same time. In fact, it will definitely sound like a 'loud party' - and anywhere, not just in Catalonia." (Percussive Notes)
