  • Sándor Balassa was born in Budapest, on 20 January 1935. He started his musical studies in the Béla Bartók Conservatory at age 17, and studied composition under Endre Szervánszky at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music, obtaining a diploma in 1965.
