Kenny Aronoff is best known for the powerful back-beat he provides for John Cougar Mellencamp. His other recording credits include albums with Mitch Ryder, Brian Setzer, Belinda Carlisle, Marshall Crenshaw, the BoDeans and John Eddie.
In addition to his great rock playing, Kenny is a classically trained percussionist with a B.M. in music performance from Indiana University. He has studies with Vic Firth and Arthur Press of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and with Alan Dawson and Gary Chester on drumset. Kenny is also an experienced clinician and teacher.
"Laying it Down, Basics of Rock Drumming" is a carefully constructed approach to learning the fundamentals. Concepts like selecting the right beat, keeping steady time, making the beat groove, and being creative with the beat are explored. He offers methods and exercises for these and others like control and independence, which are detailed in the booklet included. Kenny also provides his own analysis of his drum parts in songs such as "Jack and Diane", "Hurts So Good", and "Rain on the Scarecrow." Also featured is great live footage of Kenny with John Cougar Mellencamp.
