Comments: I don't know much about percussion, but my brother, who's majoring in symphonic percussion, loved them, so I have no complaints.

Comments: For the price you pay in comparison to the Adams brand mutes, these are great! I love mine. I am using them for the 8th movement of Carter's Eight Pieces for Four Timpani. These mutes do the trick. The only downside is that they're on the lighter side and unfortunately, the more playing you do on the muted drum, the felt leaves a bit of residue (very small fuzzy particles) and you have to dust the drum off afterwards. However, they do the trick. I remedied the weight problem with a knife, a couple of very heavy washers, and a small bit of gorilla glue. I cut open the side of the mute along the seam where they put the top and bottom together (no it wasn't sewn), inserted a few washers into the middle of the mute, squirted a little glue into the middle over the washers and again on the seam to create the seal and now they work like a charm. I just don't have the money for the Adams right now. So whether you're a college student with no money in your pocket, a high school student just trying to experiment more with timpani, or a band director trying to stay on budget, I would recommend these.
