The TMC3 Michael Crusoe, Artist Signature Series Classic Period Sostenuto timpani model features a 1″ maple core, covered with multiple layers of wool felts. The black, steam-pressed outer layer of felt is tighly sewn with a seam. This softer general mallet features a round, sustaining tone with a warm depth. Employing moderate articulation, this mallet is well-suited for the bolder, sustaining legato passages in the Classic repertoire of Mozart, Haydn, early Beethoven, Mendelssohn, and Schubert as well as others.
Bamboo handles are carefully matched for diameters of 1/2″ to 17/32″, as well as a medium weight of 35-45g. Joints are finely sanded for smoothness and carefully placed for premium balance. A wood finish is applied to ensure constant humidity and keep environmental changes from affecting the handle's stability and strength.

Michael Crusoe, is Principal Timpanist of the Seattle Symphony Orchestra. In addition, he also serves as principal timpanist of the Seattle Opera Association and has also served as timpanist with the Mostly Mozart Summer Festival Orchestra at Lincoln Center in New York. Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Washington, he served as percussion instructor at the Waterloo Music Festival in New Jersey and has taught at Seattle Pacific University and Seattle University. Mr. Crusoe can be heard with the Seattle Symphony on the critically acclaimed Delos label recordings directed by Gerard Schwarz.
