The Black Swamp LOG3 Drum is the next to largest of the 4 available and measures 30″ in length with 2 pitches.
All Black Swamp log drums are made with a solid maple soundboard, Finnish birch plywood resonator case, and feature precisely CNC cut soundboards and BSP logo on the side. The unique flanged shape of the soundboards helps to focus the tone and increase resonance, with a marked sweet spot for consistent tone production. Side handles make it easy to transport this drum and rubber feet on the bottom help with overall sustain and sonic quality.
The pitch range of the full set spans two octaves. Each drum's pitches are approximately a minor third apart, and adjacent drums are approximately a major third apart. Each drum comes out slightly different, sometimes a half to whole step apart, and Black Swamp does not fine tune each drum to perfect, exact pitches.

South Aftrican Suite by John Higgins calls for a log drum. The band director and I decided on the large log drum (LOG3). It did not come with mallets, so we settled on the Mike Balter 102R Tan Grandioso Rubber mallets. For the concert we did put a microphone on the log drum, just so that it was sure to be heard over the concert band! It's a beautiful sounding instrument and the students love playing it.
