Description

The Gold Series 13″ Vintage Quick Crash Cymbal was created in conjunction with the Master Cymbal Smiths at Bosphorus and players here to provide a cymbal sound that has all but been forgotten. This cymbal is our exclusive and is characterized by it’s breaking glass sound and short decay, reminiscent of the thin cymbals used in early jazz, dance and vaudeville ensembles of the 20’s & 30’s. These cymbals are designed to fill a sonic gap between a 12″ “splash” and a typical 16″ crash and they can be especially useful when accompanying jazz singers, playing a Broadway show or even in some big band type settings. The cymbal smiths at Bosphorus were excited at taking on our request and I know you’ll agree as we do that they have succeeded in capturing a forgotten sound in the Vintage Quick Crash.

I bought my Bosphorus 13" Gold Series Vintage Quick Crash Cymbal for the same reason 2 years ago. And, I was also expecting a brighter sound. However, I also have Zildjian 15" and 14" A-Custom fast crashes and the Bosphorus blends very well with them. A year after that, I picked up a Bosphorus 11" Gold Series splash cymbal; and it did the trick! It's high pitched, excellent projection, responds quick, decays quick, doesn't get buried in the mix like other splashes. Steve Weiss doesn't stock it, but they'll order it for you. It's definitely worth the wait!

This was an experiment. I liked the description of the cymbal as being described as "sounding like breaking glass" but it misses the mark for me, at least the one I got. Seems to me it should have been made thinner to achieve that sound. I have always believed it's foolish to purchase a cymbal without first playing it in person before purchasing it and this experience has reinforced my belief in that rule.
