mallet dampening!!

these mallets sound great and make complete sense for the usage of David Friedman (king of mallet dampening), but I personally don't really gravitate towards them. these mallets don't have the bounce off the keyboard that I expect from other mallets like the IP RS251. (the lack of bounce does help with mallet dampening though!) also, these are slightly longer than the normal mallet length. other than that, these mallets are basically indestructible after 8 months of usage, and sound great from afar!! if you mostly play with 4 mallets and grip them further up on the shafts, I think you would dig these!! otherwise, I would look somewhere else.

If you have just one pair of vibe mallets, it should be these. These will be heard through a quiet band section or a vibe solo section in your jazz ensemble.

These are great for a medium-hard sound. They are light and fast for both 2 and 4-mallet playing. I like these handles more than other Innovative rattan - they feel stiffer and more solid than the Jerry Tachoir JT23's (which could be by design, as the JT 23's are medium). I typically play with mediums, but I dig these for times when I need a brighter sound to speak against metallophones in my percussion ensemble GLANK.

I've tried a lot of different vibraphone mallets throughout my WGI, Jazz, & Undergraduate Percussion Performance studies. All that considered, this is a good line. The handle feels natural to me--it's like a lighter and slightly more flexible Mike Balter 23R. The synthetic yarn sounds and feels great. The sound produced is round, warm, and can provide a beautiful wash if you hold down the pedal. Even at louder dynamics, the sound is consistent. This is cool for mellow solo literature, but not for ensemble playing... there is no way this model would speak through a Wind or Jazz Ensemble, as advertised. Maybe if the player had a feature, but not when everyone's playing. With that in mind, I'm gonna return mine and try the more articulate model.
