I bought these mallets for an arrangement of Carol of the Bells we are playing with our orchestra. They are perfect for the soft beginning!

This mallet's brightness could compare to that of a brass mallet, just without as much "ting" contact sound. They have a decent volume for a 7/8" mallet, but I still struggle to get the fff's I desire (such as that in Holst's "Jupiter"). The one thing that turned me off from these mallets upon receiving them was the length. I know its a glock mallet, but wow, these handles are SHORT (also very thin). I've since gotten used to them, but I still wish they were a touch longer. When your hands are at the bottom of the handles, it's about where you would have them for playing any 2-mallet stuff, but I prefer to have a longer handle and choke up on them. Overall, a decent mallet with a light cut to them. But if you REALLY wanted to cut through an orchestra/band, I'd go with the 1 1/8' model, or even a brass mallet. This one delivers more of an articulate blend with some presence rather than a sharp cut.
