These may be too heavy for beginning 4-mallet players. That core weight combined with a minimalist shaft could also be a bit unnerving when really getting after it, though I've never broken any birch when I've missed an accidental and hit shaft to bar. Give them to the capable section leader so their sound leads the ensemble.
Very nice sound, the weight is perfect. Highly recommend both outdoor and indoor for pieces that require louder dynamic expression.
