These mallets are awesome, I use them for drumset playing. They have a very soft tip on them, so soft that I wouldn't want to go any softer for my use case. Every drum stick that I know of is tapered to help to better balance of the stick, and it seems like these are also well balanced because of that.

I purchased these items for my son for school band. I'm sure the quality is just right for what he needed. The order was received quickly, too!

These are fine mallets....I don't know why the other reviewer had an issue with loose covers. I suppose I COULD duplicate his problem if I bit into them and pulled.... And if the cover ever did come off it could be easily sewn back on, or one could even glue the base stitching so it would not happen again. I use these ala Ginger Baker for rolls....tom, snare, cymbals..... they have a soft powdery sound that I like. They are harder than a fluffy beater, but not too hard. If you like Ginger's sound on Cream's "We're Going Wrong" then I feel you will like these mallets. Hugs.....

Honestly, the mallet itself is a good product, it's just that anyone could just grab the material surrounding the beater and yank it right off. I would recommend the bamboo series for timpani. Unfortunately it is more expensive, but the highest quality mallet line from IP.
