Majestic’s new Prophonic concert snare drums bring innovative technology to the art of snare drum musicianship. Its newly designed mechanism allows for the use of up to four different types of snare material simultaneously, each with individual tension adjustment and throw off levers, while still allowing all to be engaged or disengaged together with a master switch.

I received this drum a few days a ago to compliment a Majestic 6.5 Walnut Prophonic (also reviewed). I first heard this drum at a percussion seminar and was blown away by its range and focus. It is very sensitive but can easily roar when called upon. Since I use this drum primarily in a concert band setting, I've subbed out the medium wire strand for Majestic's spiral wire to provide the option of a slightly 'wetter' sound. I ran the drum through a variety of styles at rehearsal and was surprised at the versatility it offered. We started with a traditional march, followed by some 'pit' music, a traditional rag, and a modern symphonic piece. In each case I found a unique voice that complimented the character of music. The mechanism on the Prophonic series is also joy to use -- very straight forward, quick, responsive and solid. Because of the range and sensitivity of this model it is now my go-to drum, with the 6.5 walnut being called upon whenever we need a darker / deeper voice. These drums are just fantastic and highly recommend them.
