Description

Majestic’s new Prophonic concert snare drums bring innovative technology to the art of snare drum musicianship. Its newly designed mechanism allows for the use of up to four different types of snare material simultaneously, each with individual tension adjustment and throw off levers, while still allowing all to be engaged or disengaged together with a master switch.

This unique feature combined with a variety of available shell configurations and many options for snare type allow the Prophonic snare drum to be easily configured for a multitude of concert settings. From the largest orchestra hall to the most intimate chamber setting, the Prophonic sets the new standard for the professional classical percussionist.

I've owned this drum for about 16 months. During that time, I've played it in our community concert band with superb results. I've never been a fan thin sounding traditional spiral wire set-ups and I wanted something a bit more complex that wouldn't just 'cut' but compliment the instrumentation. I started with the stock set-up and it sounded fantastic -- dark, full, articulate but resonate. I decided to make a few modifications given the range of music we perform, from modern symphonic fanfares to Sousa and beyond. Subbing out the Skintone head for a Renaissance head in addition to swapping the synthetic gut for Majestic's four-strand spiral wire gave the drum a more traditional sound while continuing to offer a broad range of voices. I have since added the Prophonic Aluminum to my collection and have restored this drum back to it's stock configuration. As a pair they compliment each other nicely and offer an amazing range of possibilities. Highly recommended!

Sounded great, right out of the box! Through various combinations of gut, cable, bead, and traditional wire snares this drum can sound crispy and dry for articulate playing, or warm and full for smooth rolls. Being able to disengage all snares at once, or one at a time is a great feature. Oh, and it looks beautiful! Great product!
