I have one of these mounted on my bongos to add a 3rd high drum for special accents and fills. It works well for this, as the rim is not high so I can play it with hands. It has a bright, high resonant tone due to the aluminum shell. My only complaint is it's pretty difficult to tune, and I'm pretty sure it did not need as many tuning lugs as it has. It'd probably be easier to tune with fewer of them. But overall it's a great drum and well built.
