The Emil Richards Sounds of the Studio Series has an array of products each producing a unique sound. These were created by Emil Richards, Mr. Hollywood Percussion, in the studios for TV and movies. Attention to musical nuance was key in the development of this series.

The ERRM is a Marimba/Vibe mallet that produces a maraca, shaker effect when striking the instrument. It can be played on marimba, vibes, and all percussion instruments.

This is a great addition to any percussionists bag. The rattle sound is loose but still focused and it works well with ethnic percussion instruments. As an added value, I am finding it a great practice tool. It is very easy to really hear if the time is flowing when playing syncopations by keeping a steady flow of 8th or 16th notes (think maraca), then accenting the offbeats on whatever instrument you are playing at the time. Very Nice!

I had a pair of these given to me by a dear friend over a decade ago; long since discontinued by the manufacturer at the time. These are even better. They are an indispensable asset in broadening the range of colors available to the percussionist and drum set player. Now if only they would put the Emil Richards Maraca Mallet back into production!
