I bought several of these to try to warm up the tone of some metal shell drums that I already liked. And these worked exactly as Remo describes; it's a thicker head than the typical snare side head and I'm sure the texture helps. My compliments to both Remo for the idea and Steve Weiss for stocking things like this.
