This book is helping me fine-tune and add some precision to my rolls. My intention is not toward working the marching band circuit but rather toward incorporating rolls creatively into my everyday jazz and rock repertoire. There are a lot of variations that, while they might not come up to often on the bandstand, still are valuable toward playing with more creativity and confidence day in and day out. I think my hands are improving as I move toward the "soft hands" description of some of the great drummers. On the con side, I think it's kind of hard to read all the various ways rolls can be written. Sometimes I'll stare at a new page and say to myself, Wait .... What? I have to take a lot of time to determine if I think I am playing what is intended on the page. Setting those challenges aside, just spending the time with the book and repeating the exercises is improving my hands and my timing inside the various rolls. It's challenging and I'm really enjoying it. If you've got the time and will really shed this stuff I believe there are things here you won't find elsewhere.
