Béla Bartók is considered to be one of the greatest Hungarian composers and one of the most significant musicians of the twentieth century. He displayed an extreme passion for ethnomusicology. His music was invigorated by the themes, modes, and rhythmic patterns of the Hungarian and other folk music traditions he studied, which he synthesized with influences from his contemporaries into his own distinctive style.

This piece is already acknowledged as a masterpiece, but for those unfamiliar with it, Bartok's incredible sense of expression via rhythm is played out in this piece. Pwer, verve, excitement and initensity issue forth from this work. Order from a different company, however. the score they show you here, is NOT the score they actually send. I received a "study copy" instead of the real score, so I had to re-order from someone else in order to get a performance-friendly copy of the score.
