This isn't a great tambourine. The head is thin and detracts from the overall balance of the instrument and pulls from the shell fairly easily due to seasonal changes. The jingles are dry and quiet, but lack tone. The shell looks (and probably is) cheap in all ways. It's worth the price, but no more. I have 2 of these. Quality is consistent, but the head and shell dimensions are very different aside from diameter. However, after replacing the jingles with Grover HT copper on one and Grover bronze on the other and replacing the heads, both tambourines have turned into wonderful concert tambourines. I got the idea from a few professionals who have put new jingles in cheap drums. The cheap shells are wonderfully light weight, making the tambourines incredibly sensitive. All said and done, I have spent $80 on each and gotten tambs that rival Grover and black swamp drums.
