Ancona-Up Front Etudes - Product Information

Not long ago, Tapspace released Up Front – the world's most definitive resource for the modern pit.
Up Front Etudes is the next step of the journey. It breaks the monotony of traditional scales and pit exercises with six cool mini-compositions designed to add spice and variety to your front ensemble training program.

Jim Ancona, percussion caption head for the 7-time world champion Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps, has created this warm-up repertoire for students and instructors alike. The pieces are technically focused and diverse enough to provide a realistic way to hone any ensemble's musical skills.

Also included is a CD-ROM containing printable individual parts for each composition as well as reference recordings which are supplied at a variety of tempos with click tracks to use for practice and devlopment of each etude.

Great Supplement to Up Front

Comments:

These are some very nice exercises. However the difficulty level of the exercises is geared toward the more experienced pit. I found them to be much too difficult for my relatively young and less experienced pit. The one thing that this book (and "Up Front" resource) lacks is technique information and exercises for the electronic piano/synthesizer. With the growing use of these in marching bands and drum corps today, I think this would be a fitting addition to this resource. As a non piano player, I find it somewhat difficult to write exercises that are 100% appropriate for them. I hope to see some more information on this in the future. But I still give a 5/5 for this because it's still a great resource and great exercises that can be used for the intermediate to advanced pit.
