Great Articulations

I enjoy these for loud cinematic percussion over the 5A and SD1 swizzle varieties. The felt on these are harder and better for bass drums and very large toms. I do like the smaller-softer felt of the 5A dual-tone version, which sounds musical on things like bongos and smaller toms (and cymbals). The sharper articulation of the SD2 bead vs. the larger SD1 is also a better contrasting sound to use alongside the harder butt end, I think (like, flams and ruffs with SD2 grace notes and hard felt impact--especially on muffled, large drums). I wish there was a variety with the SD2 bead and dual-tone felt, which would be ideal for those smaller sounds (where the 5A tip isn't quite as sharp as I'd want). For now, I switch between SD6 Swizzle B for large sounds, and 5A dual-tone butt end for delicate, muffled sounds, with either the SD2 bead or something like Peter Erskine's signature series for quiet, but articulate, small drum sounds.

These are so useful. For those moments when you just don't have the time to make a switch. Great for use in musical pit orchestrations where the instrumentation is busy. A Quick flip and you could essentially go from snare drum roll to a release on a tympani strike without hesitation. The snare side is like the bolero, but the hard felt mallet end can provide a nice medium attack for cymbals, etc.

Very cool specialty stick in my opinion. Gives me the opportunity to change very
quickly from a pair of mallets to a regular stick in no time. Or if I just want to change
"textures" in a song or section of the tune without having to put down a sticks and grab a pair of mallets.
You're not going to use this on every song but it's a wonderful tool to have if and when you are. Always good to have another pair of "specialty" sticks in your bag.
Love the swizzle sticks!

I really like the grip on the Vic Swizzle sticks..though the tip is a little smaller than I'm used to, they still play very well and have a great sound. I'm really happy with my purchase- they made my junior recital performance great! Thanks a bunch!
