Great Mallets

Comments:

I had been looking for mallets of this caliber for years. The first version I purchased about two years ago I liked a little better, however as they got worn the mallet heads got a little warped and oblong which led to a bit of an uneven sound and feel. This newer version seems to be well constructed, however they're quite "bouncy". The first cpl weeks it almost felt like tennis balls on the end of the rattan. As they're breaking in it's becoming easier to get through the bar instead of just bouncing off of the surface. I recommend these to any mallet percussionist that's looking for a full fundamental tone without amplification, use of various techniques allow for a more percussive or less percussive effect as desired. They're great for four mallet comping underneath a soloist or two mallet soloing alike. There is a bit of an adjustment period if you're used to traditional vibe/marimba mallets, but after that you won't want to go back.

Inspiring!

Comments:

The remodel of the Stefon Harris' is great! Little longer shaft to make shifting and balance more comfortable, reduced head (although still oversized) is a little more manageable but most importantly the soft core and coarse wrap feel wonderful! They definitely take some breaking in, but the clear fundamental and heavy weight make these put out what you put in! Thanks Vic!

Great, for a Gig or Two...

Comments:

I have purchased about two dozen pair of these sticks since they became available. They are a copy of the OLD Milt Jackson head on a longer, stiffer shaft (Stefon used to play MJ's with the short handles, even for 4 mallet!). But the yarn wears out, or shifts and exposes the core; or they are wrapped inconsistently such that this pair is fluffier than that pair. Ultimately, they are lame on the first gig till they break in, then good for a couple gigs until yarn breaks or moves around the core. The last pair was considerably lighter than previous, so with the loose wrap I couldn't get any fundamental. Help!
