OK earplugs

Comments:
These are great for practicing snare drum, percussion ensemble, cymbals, or other drum/battery. I don't recommend these for timpani, mallets (glock/xylo), or drum set. I find that the sustain of the timpani rings in the "impact chamber" of these plugs, which is very distracting. However, they do reduce the initial impact of the mallet, which is generally the loudest overall sound produced. I would not wear these while practicing with a band either. They are great for reducing "impact sounds" like loud snare drum hits, or cymbals. But they only reduce ambient loud SPL's by 6 dB which is not effective in preserving your ears over an extended period of time. They are great when you are in rehearsal, and need to interact with the other players because you can hear speech very clearly. The other thing I find about these plugs is that they are quite uncomfortable. I can only wear them for 20-30 mins before I need a break, and I have to take them out for a couple minutes. I also use "Hearos Hi-Fi" earplugs which are much more comfortable (I could wear them all day), have a Noise Reduction Ration of 12-20 dB, and you can hear speech just as clearly. Unfortunately Steve Weiss does not yet carry Hearos plugs, but if you can find them I would go with those! They are only about $5 more in price.
