Great bag, Shoddy hardware

The bag itself is everything I hoped it would be. It can store dozens of mallets--from small to huge! The service from Steve Weiss Music was great! I had the bag in a couple of days. However, the first time it was used, the plastic hardware on the backpack straps broke, and it couldn't be used as a backpack to carry it.

super awesome bag, seams look good, zippers look pretty sturdy! holds almost everything .. great price .. fast shipping!! let's hope it holds up well and or is at least easy to repair only possible improvement we could suggest is staggering the bottom of the pockets (or rows of pockets) for the mallets so the heads rest further away from each other .. .!!!! plus maybe some dedicated like tile / RFID / pocket cuz once its full of mallets gooodllloord how much is that bag worth!!!??? anyway .. awesome!!! was worth the wait for the restock :)

best bag for the buck

I purchased this bag after owning a few other name-brand bags that fell apart. This bag is large enough to fit all the essentials for a freelance percussionist, light enough to carry (the backpack is a plus, freeing your hands to carry other things), and durable enough to stand travel wear and tear. It's also cheaper than similar name-brand bags.

Close, but not quite

Comes close, but, really, no place for pencils/pens? The pocket for sheet music is wide enough, but a bit thin. Some gussets would really help.

Pretty great bag

I would definitely recommend this bag to someone who is an experienced percussionist with a moderate mallet collection that isn't as huge as professionals'. It's plenty big to fit all the essentials for college percussion. I like the amount of space in the front pocket, and the backpack straps are a nice touch. I personally use the side handle instead of the backpack straps, but that's just me. I only wish there was a little bit of padding on the inside flap that covers the sticks and mallets. The rough nylon started wearing down some drum set sticks I have used a lot. Also don't try to stuff too many sticks and mallets in each pocket since the pockets are stitched pretty darn tight. One of the bottom pockets in the one I got ripped open after a couple weeks, but honestly that wasn't a huge deal for me since I usually don't open the entire bag to grab my sticks. Overall, very good for the price.

This is a very solid starter bag for percussionist. It is cheap and reliable compared to other more expensive bags.

Exactly what I was looking for

For twenty nine bucks, this mallet bag does everything I need it to. The size isn't HUGE, but it's bigger than the leather "Kaces" bag I had before (that was bending up all my sticks and mallets). I trust the material, and I like how everything fits inside. Minor gripes: the backpack straps are removable by a button... and they release with the lightest touch. I had the strap release on me when I was grabbing the strap by the bottom, but now I just know not to do that. No biggie, but I would have preferred regular side-release plastic buckles. I am glad that the outer pocket holds big music folios... and it would be PERFECT if it were a little roomier to hold moongels, triangle clips, towels, and other accessories comfortably. These items DO fit, but it's tight. Overall, however, I am very happy with the bag and I can live with the minor gripes. For the cost, it can't be beat.

This bag was a great idea, and was big enough to hold nearly all of what I need for college. However, after about two months of use, when it was half full, the handles broke on the bad. I contacted Steve Weiss and had it replaced, with no problem, and shortly after I purchased a Tuxedo XL Pro mallet bag.

This bag is HUGE. It has plenty of room for a plethora of mallets. The pocket in front is large enough for music and a few small accessories. It's also the best bargain on the market. It's half the price of other comparable bags and the quality is just as good. Get this bag. You won't be disappointed.

I didn't know what to expect when I ordered the bag. It is quite a bit bigger than I expected, a bit larger than your standard backpack, but feels comfortable to carry and holds everything. The pocket in the front is PERFECT for books, folders, music, etc. And there are plenty of pockets inside for sticks/mallets, etc. The padding against the sticks & mallets is kind of a not-soft, not-hard type of padding which wont eat away at the mallet yarn like some other soft-felt padded bags do. Also the price is unbeatable.

Fabulous bag!

I bought this mallet bag to hold everything I needed for college Percussion Ensemble. The bag was so much larger than I expected! There's plenty of room for my plethora of mallets, practice pad, and music! I also teach at a middle school, so the backpack functionality helps to get to rehearsal then to the school. Note: Straps on backpack loop up at bottom, different but only issue arises when you yank on the straps, so don't do that. Overall, great mallet bag, especially for the price! Durable and large, all in a backpacks!

This is THE bag to have. It isn't very bulky like some mallets tend to be and it can be carried in a variety of ways , too. It's big enough to house many sets of mallets and sticks yet it isn't so overwhelming to carry around for some reason. When you're a serious musician, you have to look like you mean business and when you're a drummer or concert percussionist, it is THE bag; bar none. I am now using it as my own personal stick/mallet storage bag and plus I am getting one for a high school band for which I am on staff. In fact, I highly recommend school bands to have these and their mallets and sticks will be able to last through more seasons than usual. Bottom line: awesome bag that shouldn't be passed up!

Got my bag in this afternoon, it was much bigger than I had thought it was going to be; a pleasant surprise to say the least. My mallets and sticks fit perfectly in place and none of them are hidden or jammed together, and the shipping was here in just a few days

My daughther LOVES this bag. We bought it for her for Christmas. It has ample space for all of her mallets to be held safely. She loves the backpack style.

Good idea, poor execution

First off, the bag I received is made of nylon, not hemp. Was a little disappointed about that. The bag is a good size, though slightly on the large size. The pocket layout has this beautiful design in that the back pockets are not as deep as the front pockets, which gives you 2 levels of mallet heads (which can be turned into even more levels if you are smart about what mallets go in which pockets). The major flaw I find with the pockets is their small size. I really favored my old vic firth stick bag's layout in that it had several large pockets for most of your mallets with a couple smaller ones if you want something isolated. This bag just gives you a lot of small pockets, which I find aggravating since all the pockets are much tighter around the mallets. If you fill a stick bag, the pockets don't need to hold the mallets in place. The second problem I have with this back is its protective mallet flap. The flap is made of the same material as the rest of the bag, which isn't exactly easy on yarn mallets. If the flap and the material behind the mallets isn't covered with something easier on yarn, then the flap is useless and just taking up space. A related issue is the amount of padding in the bag. I don't see a need for padding on stick bags since the bag is still flexible. The padding just takes away from its overall carrying size. The shoulder straps are nice. The bag has more of a back pack flavor to it. Two problems (although extremely minor) have surfaced for me. The weight of the bag will pull the strap out to full length if you only have one strap over a shoulder (as is a common thing to do) and the straps, although detachable, use a fairly unique design, making it near impossible to use straps from other bags to turn the bag into a messenger style bag if you wanted to do so. Lastly, the durability of the bag comes into question: out of the 5 bags owned by members of my percussion studio, one has become somewhat transparent from wear after less than a year and 2 have had zippers break within the first year. I have had mine about 2 months, so I haven't had these problems yet.

This bag looks great on-line! It's very durable, and the backpack straps are handy. The problems with this bag are in the design... The back pockets are about 3" deeper than the front pockets, which doesn't sound like it would be a problem, except if you're ever trying to carry around 2 tiers of mallets & sticks, there's no way to protect your yarn mallet heads from constantly getting smashed into, no matter which tier they're in (back or front). This bag would be great if the depth of the pockets were reversed, so that the heads of mallets, sticks, etc, in the front pocket, would rest well below the heads of mallets and sticks in the back. The current design makes this bag a MUST NOT buy-- you will seriously regret it if you need this bag as your primary "jumbo" gig bag.

I usually carry a lot of mallets with me, always two pairs of each kind, several pairs for each instrument (marimba vibes, glock and xylophone). This bag has room for all the mallets i need to bring and I can also fit my sheet music and such in the front pocket. Best of all, it's a backpack, not a shoulder bag which is perfect for me who walks to rehearsal. I recommend this bag for any percussionist who often need to bring many mallets. Really no point if not.
