black tar mess

Comments:

Nice brushes, but the tar mess sucks. I took mine apart , pulled the brushes out of the handles and cut / removed the black rubber caps, cleaned the inside of the handles with awesome / wd40 / & brake cleaner using a round bristle brush that took care of the problem . I highly recommend that when you purchase these immediately, before use, remove the rubber caps, throw them away, reassemble the brushes and you'll never have the tar problem.

Great brush

Comments:

The wires bring out the perfect texture and sound. The butt ends even make a wonderful cymbal swipe.

Versatile Brush

Comments:

I own several different types of brushes, but this is the one I use the most. It does well for many different types of music, ranging from jazz to country (train-beat).

Vic Firth Jazz Brush

Comments:

I agree with the comments about the black ends breaking down into a sticky black mess. i do like the weight and feel of the brushes however. And, I have mine for quite a while, before this mess happened.

Great before breakdown

Comments:

Love these brushes until the tar thing happens. I completely agree with the other reviewer who experienced the black mess on everything in the stick bag. Despite being a good brush, the mess isn't worth it.

best brush ever - BUT......

Comments:

These are the best, quietest (no rattles from the handle) brushes I've ever used. BUT - after a few years, the black rubber stopper at the back of the brush turns to black tar which leaks onto EVERYTHING in your stick bag. AND your hands. Has anyone else experienced this? I love this brush, but can't stand the clean-up.

Good, but...

Comments:

I have had these brushes for over a year (they've been through lots of work in Jazz Ensemble, various Jazz Combos, and Percussion Ensemble) and they're still in great condition. They feel good and handle just as Vic Firth says they do. BUT keep in mind that the handles are made of plastic, so you can't flip them and use the rubber side for a fuller cymbal roll.
