Tight head but surprising quality

My drum came with its head pretty tight just as the other reviewer says. I don't know too much about this music but I do know this is not characteristic of the bodhran sound. Though, the skin is good and it will become more lax and lower in pitch over time so no big deal for this cheaper instrument. It has a "T" brace on the back side and the wood and finish are much more quality than I expected. It even came with a bag. Well worth the price in my opinion.

Quality build but difficult to tune.

Bought this mostly based on the price factor because I was looking for an inexpensive introduction to bodhran playing. I will say that the build quality in the wood is very nice; the cross bars are sturdy and can be removed. My main issue was with the head which was mounted with far too much tension. Each time I played I would have to use copious amounts of water and pressure to tune to the desired pitch. It became more of an annoyance to deal with each time I went to play. Eventually I opted for a tunable bodhran that smaller in diameter with a deeper shell (again mostly out personal preferance). I've always been impressed in the balance of value and quality the Weiss brand products achieve and this one lives up to that expectation, just be aware that the head tension could be hit or miss from the beginning.
