The 9 duest in this collection can be performed on any combination of two mallet instruments, with the exception of Nicky and Janet which require Player 2 to use a 4 1/3 octave marimba. If a xylophone is used, playing in the lowest octave possible is encouraged for more resonance.

Following her graduation in 1980 from the University of Illinois (BM with Highest Honors in percussion performance), she studied marimba for a year in Tokyo at the Toko School of Music with Keiko Abe. In 1983 she completed requirements for her MM degree and Performer's Certificate in percussion at the Eastman School of Music under the guidance of teacher John Beck.
Since 1984 Ms. McGuire has served as Percussion Instructor and Assistant Jazz Ensemble Director at Nazareth College in Rochester, New York. Her duties there also include directing the college percussion ensemble. She is also an artist-in-residence at the Aesthetic Education Institute, President of the NYS Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society, and serves on the Board of Directors of the International PAS. In 1993 she received the Outstanding Chapter President award from PAS.
Kristen is also percussion editor for The School Music News (NYSSMA), and has had several articles published in The Instrumentalist and Percussive Notes magazines.
