Dietz-Concerto for Percussion and Symphonic Band (Solo part ONLY)-V/M/P/Wind ens. OS - Product Information

This concerto for percussion by Brett William Dietz was written for his wife and was premiered by the Duquesne University wind ensemble. In 2002, Dietz suffered a stroke the day after beginning this composition. Only a few days after the stroke, he instructed his wife to bring him his computer so that he could continue composing while struggling to recover. This piece really shows the emotions and struggles of the composer during his time of frustration. During his recovery time at his residence in Pittsburgh, Ann Monaco, Artistic Director of the Merit School of Music at Duquesne (who the piece is dedicated to) was tragically killed in an accident with a drunk driver. He stopped composing for a short period of time after this because of his devastation. After returning home to Chicago, his recovery from the stroke was complete and he finished composing this piece. A very emotional work in 3 movements, each showing a different side of Dietz's emotions.
