Mazurek-Breath (SCD)-P/CD - Product Information
Breath was written by Ron Mazurek on commission from Connecticut College for Eliza Cooper and Peter Jarvis. Breath in art is the reminder of the soul, the anima mundi. The concept of this work is based on a play of Samuel Beckett entitled "Breath" in which the transformation of "breathing" sounds from their original context, is constructed upon the idea of "infinite patterns." Through manipulation of pitches and duration of musical progression seeks to convey an unfolding that never ends. Throughout the emphasis is on fundamental sounds dramatizing the inhaling and exhaling of breath in which the "live" percussive fragments emerge into and out of the electronic sound.
