Mark Yancich, timpanist with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra since 1981, also served as timpanist and principal percussionist with orchestras in Maracaibo and Caracas, Venezuela. He is an active teacher, clinician, soloist, music publisher, and is host of the annual Mark Yancich Timpani Class and the Atlanta Percussion Seminar at Emory University. His background in the art of timpani performance and maintenance comes from years of experience and strong traditions passed on to him by his mentor, Cloyd Duff (former timpanist of the Cleveland Orchestra).

The Art of Timpani presents this step-by-step procedure for sewing two types of timpani sticks - ball and cartwheel. Mark demonstrates several approaches to this important aspect of timpani performance, all to help control and personalize the timpanist's tone while minimizing cost.
