Mardinly-Etudes for the Master Timpanist - Product Information
The etudes in this method were written of the highly melodic capabilities of the pedal timpani. Because of the technical demands made upon timpanists by composers such as Mahler, R. Strauss, Stravinsky and Bartok, to cite only a few names, it no longer is practical to think of several tunings being placed on this or that particular drum. Instead, the timpanist must use the pedals so that, at a moments notice, a given drum can play any number of notes within its range.
