    Fantastic Piece for Trio

    Comments:

Michael Aukofer triumphs again with "Song of Praise". It is written without the "drumminess" so common in many percussion ensemble works. It is a simply, a song, with glorious melodies and grooves. The udu drum provides an interesting texture, but could also be substituted by djembe or conga. Many other interesting sounds (sacks of coins) are in keeping without Aukofer's exploration of new percussive sounds. His writing is remarkable and this is a great piece for an experienced trio to find the soulful percussionist within. (By the way, "Song of Praise" was written in praise of all the meaningful women in Aukofer's life... his wife, mother, and the Caixa Trio for whom it was composed).
