Adams Schnellar Series Timpani with Calf Heads - Product Information
The Adams Schnellar Series Timpani are crafted to emulate every tiny detail of the original pair hand built by Hans Schnellar and used by the world famous Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam. Schnellar built his timpani in the Viennese tradition. Composers from the Classical and Romantic eras, Haydn and Mozart all the way to Mahler, all lived in Vienna at some point and would be well acquainted with the sounds and styles of timpani playing in Vienna.
These timpani were elaborately developed based on the original Schnellar timpani, while utilizing modern Adams innovations to optimize the power and complexity of these extraordinary instruments. A unique egg-shaped bowl, with only three legs, was developed to enhance the tonal character of a unique tuning system. To change pitch, the calfskin head and tension rods are stationary, while the bowl itself moves vertically. Adams eliminated the counterhoop and are using a special calfskin head which feature a claw tension system to help produce the pure tones of the shell.
- Each drum uses the Dresden-style pedal.
- All Schnellar timpani come standard with flight cases and a wheeled cart for easy transportation.
