Friedman-Almost Blue-V - Product Information
Almost Blue by David Friedman for solo vibraphone. Friedman writes, "This piece grew out of an improvised solo piece based on an F ostinato pattern in the left hand. When I was playing a gig with guitarist Steve Kahn in the middle 1970s, his father, the famous song writer and lyricist Sammy Cahn, came to the concert. At the time I called the piece "In F". Sammy came up to me in the break and told me he loved the piece, especially because, as he said, "F is the only key I can play in on the piano!" The fact that he loved the piece, regardless of the reason, inspired me to continue playing and developing it."
