Have you tried these drum head things? They're amazing - I tried to play my snare drum without it and I was just hitting air. This thing made all the difference in the world. Amazing!

I already reviewed this once, but here's an update: It has been 7 years since I installed the head mentioned in the previous review. It still sounds great, and still requires little tuning maintenance. However, it is finally time to replace the head because the coating in the center is finally wearing down. I can still get a good brush response on the rest of the head, but lose a little in the center. I have never seen a coating last this long, or a head retain its tuning this long. And, it makes a great tone! Guess what I'm going to buy next!

I put the American Vintage Thin on a 5x14" Brass Supraphonic about four years ago. It tuned up easily and has required very little tuning maintenance since then. It still sounds and feels great. Its tone has plenty of attack and brightness, but also a smooth warmth that really makes the metal shell sound pleasant. Responsive when played loud, articulate when played soft, and beautiful with brushes. The texture lasts way longer than the spray coatings on Remo heads (which I also love, BTW). The way the stick feels rebounding off the head is consistent with the way the sound comes out, so it is easy and intuitive to play with musical nuance on this head. I'm going to try them on an entire kit soon.

I put the 14" head on my 1941 RK snare drum, and does that drum sing! Wow, what a difference! It has a sharp, quick attack to match the biting brass section hits, along with a great response for soft playing and brush work. I put two 13" heads on my two 9x13 RK ride toms, with the same fantastic results. I have two more coming for my two 16" RK floor toms, and can't wait to hear how those drums will sound. Highly recommended, and I'll use no other drum head on that set except Aquarian American Vintage medium. Thanks for a great product, Roy. Roger Post
