Bach-Toccata and Fugue in D minor arr. Noguchi (SP)-2-3M - Product Information

This is thought to be one of the earliest of the 250 or so organ works Bach composed throughout his life, having been completed before 1708 (when he was 23 years old) at the latest. The Toccata relentlessly builds up to a climax via teeming octave passages in the opening, characteristic weighty organ harmonies, and rapid improvisatory episodes. The ensuing Fugue, starting with one solo voice, reaches ever greater heights of exultation as it binds two, three and then four voices together, after which it reverts to the freedom of the toccata and closes the work with glorious, sumptuous harmonies. This is probably the most famous of Bach's organ works, familiar not only in its original organ guise, but also in Stokowski's orchestration and in Busoni's arrangement for the piano.
