I use these mallets for four-mallet excerpts, concert playing, and practicing. They produce a great warm sound (but articulate when you need it) throughout the marimba, especially on the low/middle three octaves. I haven't played them on vibes because I use another mallet for that. I did test the sound, however, and it does produce a clear sound, in the middle of the instrument specifically. In addition to all of this, the mallet can be soft and loud distinctly, whenever the piece may call for it. All in all, for the price (under $60 for 2 pairs) and the sound quality, these mallets can't be beat.
