A Rich And Intricate Sound

Comments:

Look let's address the elephant in the room right off the bat - this is an expensive triangle. If you are looking for an entry-level option, if this is your first foray into buying your own triangle, or if you're only going to have one triangle and use it as a general-purpose instrument...this is probably not the one for you. You could get the 6" Alan Abel triangle and still end up with one of the best triangles there is and save a bit of cash. But if this is NOT your first rodeo and you're looking for something to diversify your options for sounds, then this triangle might be of interest to you. It certainly delivers a unique and captivating sound which justifies the price. It has a serious sustain, with what seems like an endless amount of overtones - certainly noticeably more than other triangles I have tried. And my personal favorite use case for this is on long sustained rolls, where it sounds like an endless cascade of shimmering bells. Now I will say there are some passages where I don't actually think this triangle fits in all that well (which is why I don't recommend it as somebody's first or only option). The timbre with all of its prominent overtones can sometimes be a bit overwhelming in more exposed passages, and can slightly cover up articulations of quieter notes played in rapid succession. For those cases I prefer the more clear and focused Alan Abel. To wrap up, this is a stellar addition to my personal collection, and I think it complements my other triangles nicely and gives me more options. It is more expensive, but when you hear it in person for the first time you will immediately understand why. If you're growing your own set of triangles, this is a worthy option for consideration. However, for percussionists just starting to get into it, I think there are better options out there to start with.

I have a few different triangles now; I got this one at PASIC and it's my favorite by far.
