Maric-Borrowed Time (SP)-V/M/P/OR - Product Information
Borrowed Time by Dave Marric for percussion and organ. From the composer, "The title Borrowed Time came about through the basic concepts that the nature of life itself is on many different levels temporary and that a personal perception of the universe often inevitably leads to a highly self-centered emotional response. The result being rather like concentric circles with the outer-most perhaps representing the entire universe (which, according to some, is a temporary phenomena), inner circles representing our sun, Earth, our environment, our life spans, and the very center representing moments of extreme happiness and ecstasy or alternatively, pain, which perhaps allows us to understand what it truly means to be "alive".
Roughly divided into two halves, Borrowed Time begins with solo marimba and is then joined by a slowly developing organ accompaniment that evolves to the point where it takes over the solo role leading in effect to the piece's climax at the end of the first half. Crotales and vibraphone feature in the atmospheric second half which are both struck and bowed and echo material played previously by the marimba."
Percussion Instrumentation:
5-Octave Marimba, Splash Cymbal, Crash Cymbal, Crotales, Vibraphone, Bass Bow
