Donkey Jawbone (Quijada) - Product Information

The Donkey Jawbone or Quijada is a natural rattle instrument that has its roots in South and Central American music. The instrument is played by holding the smaller side and striking the larger side with the heel of your hand creating a rhythmic rattle sound. Additionally a stick can be dragged across the teeth allowing for a rasping effect to be created.

This is a natural instrument crafted from real bone, slight variations occur from instrument to instrument.

Love my quijada

Comments:

I remember my sister telling me about this instrument when we were kids. I thought to myself at that time, I'm getting one of those! Jump forward half a century, and I finally got one. It is fantastic. I am so pleased with this purchase. Came very well-packed. Highly recommend. Beware: attracts attention. :)

Quijada

Comments:

I just purchased two instruments for the Wichita Symphony We using them for Lopez's Peru Negro. Within a week both of them lost teeth and the bone when you strike it to rattle the teeth cracked creating a hole in the center of the bone. I realize that they are fragile but not to this extent.

Just what I needed

Comments:

Arrived on time in perfect condition. I'm using for my arrangement of Marie Lavaux for orchestra. The singer will be playing the Quijada. It will be a spectacular visual and audio addition to the ensemble.
