Boss DB-90 Dr. Beat Metronome - Product Information

Practice in style with the flagship metronome of the Dr. Beat Metronome line. The new DB-90 metronome is loaded with quality sounds and drum patterns to make your practice sessions less mundane and more musical. There's a Rhythm Coach function with an onboard mic, a reference-tone function for tuning, an Instrument input, MIDI input, and other handy tools to make learning fun and effective.

Better Beats, Better Practice
The Note Mixing function allows you to instantly create a variety of beats by adjusting the levels of five different note values. Front-panel sliders, buttons, and a large rotary dial provide instant, hands-on access to edit parameters. Select four different click sounds, including a human voice-counting sound that will help you know your place in the bar. The DB-90 metronome is also equipped with realistic PCM drum patterns, for developing your accuracy and rhythmic feel effectively.

Plug Into Rhythm Coach
Expand your rhythmic horizons with Rhythm Coach. This innovative follow-along feature has four training modes to help build your accuracy, speed, and endurance. With the DB-90's onboard microphone, you can use the Rhythm Coach functions with acoustic drums, or plug a Roland V-Pad into the Trigger input. Play along, and chart your progress.

Many Uses
Drummers can connect to the DB-90 metronome via Roland V-Pads or the internal microphone. Guitarist and bassist can directly plug into the DB-90 metronome without any other gear required, and monitor via connected headphones — practically any type of instrumentalist can benefit from the DB-90's features. And for those who wish to sync to an external sequencer for more elaborate accompaniment, they can do so with the DB-90's MIDI input. This stage-oriented feature is especially useful for drummers.

  • The most advanced metronome available
  • Trigger input to access unique Rhythm Coach exercises
  • MIDI in for syncing to external sequencer tempos
  • PCM sounds with "drum machine" style patterns
  • 50 memories
  • Human-voice count

    No Cat Videos

    Comments:

The best thing about it is that it's pre-internet essence. It never will distract you with notifications, or messages, of any sort. That being said, it's greatest weakness is its lack of cat videos.

    Expensive but worth it

    Comments:

The talk feature is the best. It counts out the rhythm using words and counting sylables. Worth it!

    Overrated and WAY overpriced

    Comments:

This metronome does everything you could want it to, and more. Except operate on battery power. My DB-90, and those of at least two other people I have spoken with, have had the battery connector completely fall apart with just normal (not abusive) use. Now I can only use it when tethered to its wall plug. Instead buy the little blue KORG metronome. It does everything you need (but without the features you won't use on the DB-90) for a fraction of the cost, and it works on batteries and lasts a long time. Or, if you need the nifty programmable features for time signature changes and tempo changes and so on, get the Tama Rhythm Watch, which is more durable and has better sounds. Yamaha used to make a metronome in this class, and it was the best. Sadly, Yamaha always discontinues its best products.

    Industry Standard

    Comments:

This is the standard to which most percussionists compare other metronomes, and for good reason, and if this were ten years ago, I'd highly recommend buying this. It's sturdy, versatile, and, most importantly, it's loud. All this said, you can find smartphone apps that do more for less than five bucks (I use Frozen Ape's Tempo Advance, it's actually way better). If you do decide to buy this, though, I'd recommend buying the AC adapter, this thing burns through batteries like no one's business.
