Xenakis Blocks Rock

Comments:

I'm using the top 5 synthetic block for Xenakis' "Rebonds" - LOVE them. The sound cool and I can whack away at them without worrying about cracking or damaging. Wonderful product, I'd recommend it to anybody!

Manufacturer Response to Michelle

Comments:

I understand that you ordered a #3 Synthetic Block. I'm happy to refund your money in full and/or work with you on pricing so that you can order the #7 or #8 block. As for the "plastic tone criticism", there are two factors that might influence what you experienced: (A). The mallet choice - an ca. 7/8" ball hard durometer neoprene mallet head or EQ W1 Rosewood Mallet with one layer of moleskyn works really well with blocks #1-6. Also (B). placing the blocks on medium density foam allows the full resonance of the instruments overtones to blossom. I'm wondering if the block was on foam? BTW, when using foam instead of the EQ mounting system, I simply roll up a small loop of duct tape and place it on the bottom of the block and then attach that to the foam so the block stays put and vibrates completely... Synthetic Blocks: Small #1 - #6 Blocks - Muksho Sound Style, Large #7 & #8 Blocks - Concert Woodblock Sound Style Quality synthetic blocks. Indestructible - Will Not Crack! Notice that all 6 small piccolo blocks have the same height dimension and the 2 large blocks are of the same height dimension. All 8 blocks are on the EQUILIBRIUM 4-Way Adjustable Rack System sold separately. All 8 blocks may be easily adjusted for same height playing as well as centering the blocks so that the sweet spot is uniform amongst all 8 blocks.

Sounds like hitting plastic

Comments:

I purchased one of these, and they are WAY too high pitched too be a woodblock. They literally sound like hitting a piece of plastic. Don't waste your money.

The sound is excellent

Comments:

I have used them here at Ithaca College for a couple of years, and love them. I will probably not purchase any wooden woodblocks for the school again, because invariably the students will crack them. With Michael's wood blocks that will not be an issue. And the sound is excellent. The conductors can't tell the difference. They always sound good because they aren't cracked.
